With the mounting anxiety around the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak, Woundtech would like to be your trusted source for the best and most accurate information, while continuing to serve as a reliable partner in providing industry-leading wound management to your patient population. That’s why we are addressing the importance of home-based wound care during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak started, several studies have been published – based on Chinese patients – describing the epidemiological risk factors of infected patients who developed worse complications such as ARDS and mortality. Among the risk factors are age (over six-fold increased for death), cardiovascular diseases (over four-fold increase), diabetes (over three-fold increase), hepatitis B, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic kidney diseases, and cancer. Having two or more of these factors confers an even greater risk for complications. Needless to point out that all of these risk factors are present in significant portions of the chronic wound patient population.
Protecting this vulnerable population from COVID-19 infection should be one of our top priorities.
Woundtech provides advanced wound management at the places of residence of this vulnerable population, thus avoiding unnecessary exposures to healthcare facilities, where higher concentrations of people could further increase the risk of COVID-19 infection. (Another study showed 10-30% of transmission was nosocomial in one particular hospital.)
Woundtech already has education and infection-control protocols in place among our clinicians to provide appropriate care at patients’ places of residence. We are also prepared to work with public health, PCPs, and caregivers to implement interim wound management plans for those patients placed under isolation or quarantine.
We cannot stress enough that during this time, the safety of our at-risk patients is paramount. Woundtech is ready to support vulnerable patients and provide advanced home-based wound care during the COVID-19 outbreak.
